Take a closer look…SLO-NIACIN® is shown in clinical studies to improve blood lipid levels

SLO-NIACIN® Tablets raise HDL

When used alone, SLO-NIACIN® Tablets raise HDL levels and improve cholesterol markers3,4

Increased HDL Decreased LDL Decreased triglycerides Decreased total cholesterol
Study 1* 18% 13% 20% 9%
Study 2 8% 12% 15%

SLO-NIACIN® complements atorvastatin

In the SLIM study, SLO-NIACIN® Tablets plus atorvastatin improved HDL and cholesterol markers vs atorvastatin alone4

SLIM study§ Increased HDL Decreased LDL Decreased triglycerides
Atorvastatin 6% 26% 36%
SLO-NIACIN® Tablets 8% 12% 15%
SLO-NIACIN® Tablets + atorvastatin 10% 43% 33%

Niacin complements simvastatin

In the HATS trial, niacin (SLO-NIACIN® Tablets or immediate-release niacin) plus simvastatin improved cholesterol markers vs baseline5

HATS trial|| Increased HDL Decreased LDL Decreased triglycerides Decreased total cholesterol
Niacin (SLO-NIACIN® Tablets or immediate-release niacin) + simvastatin 26% 42% 36% 31%

Case reports of myopathy have been documented with the use of HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors in combination with lipid-altering doses of niacin therapy (≥1 gram of niacin per day).

Next: SLO-NIACIN® plus simvastatin

*A retrospective analysis of 63 patients with HDL (mean 34 mg/dL) and total cholesterol (223 mg/dL) who were treated with 1300 mg/day (mean dose) time-release nicotinic acid (SLO-NIACIN® Tablets or generic equivalent) for 7.4 months.3

Statistically significant P value compared to baseline.

A 6-month randomized, open-label trial of 42 patients with LDL >130 mg/dL and HDL <45 mg/dL for men (<55 mg/dL for women) who received 3 months of atorvastatin 10 mg/day or incremental doses of SLO-NIACIN® Tablets to 1500 mg/day followed by 3 months of combined treatment. Results in the table above reflect results of SLO-NIACIN® Tablets alone.4

§A 6-month randomized, open-label trial of 42 patients with LDL >130 mg/dL and HDL <45 mg/dL for men (<55 mg/dL for women), who received 3 months of atorvastatin 10 mg/day or incremental doses of SLO-NIACIN® to 1500 mg/day followed by 3 months of combined treatment.4

||A 3-year, double-blind, randomized trial of 160 patients with coronary disease, low HDL, and normal LDL, were assigned to one of four regimens: simvastatin (13 mg +/- 6 mg) plus niacin (2400 mg +/- 2000 mg), antioxidants, simvastatin-niacin plus antioxidants, or placebo.5

The SLIM study enrolled 42 men and women with LDL-C >130 mg/dL and HDL-C <45 mg/dL (men) or <55 mg/dL (women) who were randomized to 3 months of atorvastatin 10 mg/day or incremental doses of SLO-NIACIN® to 1500 mg/day. The alternate drug was added in the next 3-month segment. Lipid profiles and transaminases were measured monthly along with other measures at baseline and the end of each treatment sequence.4

HATS trial (HDL-Atherosclerosis Treatment Study) enrolled 160 men (younger than 63 years of age) and women (younger than 70 years of age) with clinical coronary disease (defined as previous myocardial infarction, coronary interventions, or confirmed angina) and with at least three stenoses of at least 30% of the luminal diameter or one stenosis of at least 50%. Twenty-six patients in Canada and 134 patients in the Seattle area were enrolled between January 1995 and January 1997. All patients had low levels of HDL cholesterol (<35 mg/dL for men and <40 mg/dL for women), LDL cholesterol levels of 145 mg/dL or less, and triglyceride levels of 400 mg/dL or less. Patients were assigned to one of four regimens: simvastatin (13 mg +/- 6 mg) plus niacin (2400 mg +/- 2000 mg), antioxidants, simvastatin-niacin plus antioxidants, or placebo.5

SLO-NIACIN® Tablets are a niacin dietary supplement shown in clinical studies to raise good cholesterol. With controlled-release niacin, SLO-NIACIN® Tablets gradually release nicotinic acid and are designed to reduce the incidence of flushing and itching commonly associated with niacin use.

This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Read the information leaflet provided with each bottle of SLO-NIACIN® Tablets.

Patients taking more than 500 mg of niacin daily should only do so under the care and monitoring of a physician. Niacin may cause temporary flushing, particularly when beginning, increasing dosage, or changing brands. Case reports of myopathy have been documented with the use of HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors in combination with lipid-altering doses of niacin therapy (≥1 gram of niacin per day). Although rare, abnormal liver function tests have been reported in persons taking daily doses of 500 mg or more of niacin.
